North End were relegated for the very first time in the 1900-01 season. North End only won 9 of the 34 games played and had the worst defence in the division conceding 75 goals.
North End played a pre-season friendly against Man Utd in 1902. This was Man Utd's first game under the new name having recently been changed from Newton Heath - North End won 5-1.
As well as the pre-season friendly, North End defeated Man Utd another three times during 1902-03 - twice in the league as well as knocking them out of the Lancashire Cup.
North End played a friendly with Glasgow Rangers on Christmas Eve 1904. The match finished 3-3.
North End lost by a 5 goal deficit 7 times during the period 1900-1915.
During the same period North End were relegated 3 times and promoted 3 times.
Deepdale changed significantly in 1906. North End unveiled the new West Stand which contained new changing rooms and club offices.
North End conceded their 1000th league goal in the 2-2 draw against Blackburn Rovers on Boxing Day 1911.
Future Northender Bill Shankly was born during the 1913-14 season.
The 1-1 draw against Birmingham in 1914-15 was North End's 200th in league football.
North End won promotion in 1914-15 but due to the outbreak of World War 1 the first game back in the top division didnt happen until the league resumed in the 1919-20 season.
