North End won the War Cup after beating Arsenal 2-1 in 1941.
In 1939-40 North End beat Accrington Stanley 10-1 at Peel Park.
Two North End players were sadly killed in 1941-42 - David Willacy and Percy Taylor.
Andy Beattie, Bill Shankly and Tom Smith all played in Scotland's 5-4 win against England in 1942.
North End had 15 players serving overseas in 1945-46 . They included Bobbie Beattie, Andy Beattie, Andy McLaren and Tom Finney.
During the war, Tom Finney guested for Newcastle, Bolton and Southampton.
Jimmy Dougal made 154 appearances during the war for North End.
North End thumped Tranmere Rovers 12-1 in the 3rd round of the War Cup. McLaren scored 5, O'Donnell 4 while the rest of the goals were scored by Dougal, Wharton and Finney.
